Recent leaks of the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs have put privacy front-and-center. “As we consider the ramifications of these revelations,” writes the Center for Democracy & Technology’s Justin Brookman, “keep in mind that the NSA is not collecting that information itself from its clandestine headquarters in suburban Maryland—it’s demanding that data from companies who have collected the data while delivering services to their users.” In this first installment of our Privacy Perspectives Point-Counterpoint dialogue, Brookman looks ahead to the privacy implications brought on by domestic use of drones and the eventual rise of the Internet of Things.
