RI Senate Passes Bill To Loosen Patient Confidentiality
A bill allowing medical providers to share certain information with law enforcement unanimously passed the Rhode Island Senate on June 12. Providence Journal reports the bill gives healthcare providers more leniencies to share information with police in relation to cases of domestic violence and when they think a death may be the result of a crime. Sen. Paul V. Jabour (D-Providence), the bill’s sponsor, says it strikes the right balance between privacy and public safety. It now goes to the House.

California Senate Committee Votes To Ban “Revenge Porn”
Innovation Files reports that the California Senate’s Public Safety Committee unanimously passed a bill to make “revenge porn” a misdemeanor. The bill’s sponsor, State Sen. Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) says, “This is a common-sense bill that clamps down on those who exploit intimacy and trust for revenge or personal gain.”
