Ahead of today’s hearing on consumer protection and cybersecurity, Senate staffers released a report suggesting Target missed a number of opportunities to prevent the breach that affected as many as 70 million consumers, Reuters reports. “A ‘Kill Chain’ Analysis of the 2013 Target Data Breach” alleges the company did not respond to malware and other automated warnings. “This analysis suggests that Target missed a number of opportunities along the kill chain to stop the attackers and prevent the massive data breach,” the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee report states. Target Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer John J. Mulligan will appear before the committee for a second time and will be joined by five additional witnesses, including the Federal Trade Commission’s Edith Ramirez.
