The Chronicle Herald reports on an online public database of convicted sex offenders being set up by the Sexual Abuse Network of Canada and the privacy concerns it has sparked. The network’s director said the group has worked with a legal team and the website “is a three-tier system with varying amounts of information on convicted sex offenders available to police, journalists and the public,” the report states. One privacy lawyer, however, is voicing “grave concerns” about the registry, questioning “What kind of accountability is there with this database? … If your information is misreported in a government database, you have a right to have that corrected. What mechanisms does this group have?”
