As the European Commission argues in favor of legislation that would require countries to share tax information, Germany is raising privacy concerns, Bloomberg Business reports. “German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said the proposal needs changes to ensure it doesn’t violate national rules on privacy, trade secrets and tax confidentiality,” the report states, noting he has also voiced “concern about how much access the European Commission would have to the shared information, an issue cited by Ireland, the UK and others who took part in public debate on the plan.” Economic and Tax Commissioner Pierre Moscovici disagreed, saying, “I don’t think you can use the confidentiality argument to play the Commission out of the game.”
