Telstra has unveiled its plan “to spend $100 million to build what it claimed would become one of the world’s biggest WiFi networks,” Financial Review reports, quoting a Telstra executive's comments that Telstra has “made a firm decision to be pro-privacy.” The network will launch in 2015, and Telstra’s Gordon Ballantyne has indicated business partners that want access to user data over the network would have to get customer “permission separately without restricting access to the Internet service,” the report states. Ballantyne noted, “Accessing the WiFi network is one thing but also opting in to some other marketing or retailing initiative managed by some other one of our partners is another, and it’s important that we separate those two.”
