“Data breaches have compromised nearly seven million UK credit and debit cards over the last three years, with breached businesses each paying out almost a million in forensic and remediation costs, payments processor Worldpay has calculated,” CSO reports. Meanwhile, The Register examines recent reports on Ireland’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner investigating “whether some credit unions hired private investigators to obtain confidential data from customers held by the Department of Social Protection.” And, a Trend Micro report indicates that “UK organizations are the most pessimistic in Europe about the chances of the forthcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation actually helping to prevent data breaches, with the majority believing the European Commission should consult businesses more,” InfoSecurity reports.
