Nicole Wong, formerly Deputy Chief Technology Officer to President Obama, argues in a post for Passcode that instructing children in the art of sharing information is crucial. Kids should learn, she writes, that both the knowledge of who receives one’s information and what they will do with it is paramount before handing over any data. “It’s a basic safety rule that instills both caution and judgment,” Wong writes. “Whether you are helping your younger child set up a kid’s account or talking with your teen about what’s on her ever-present phone, the privacy policy opens an opportunity for both of you to talk about what they may encounter online.”
