Illinois became the third state to pass a law prohibiting employers from requiring employees or job applicants to provide access to their social media accounts when Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed the bill Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reports. Maryland and Delaware have passed similar laws. In addition, California is considering a similar bill, and Michigan and New Jersey have their own versions in the works. In total, at least 15 states have introduced social media legislation in some form, according to the attorney who advised the Illinois bill’s sponsor.
