The New York Times reports on a Google search tool that aims to understand human meaning, have spoken conversations and provide results—not only from the Internet but from users’ personal lives. The tool, which is being rolled out to the first million volunteers, will also incorporate a user’s Gmail messages to aid in searches. Google Senior Vice President of Search Amit Singhal said the moves are “baby steps in the direction of making search truly universal” and toward building in artificial intelligence.
