The IAPP announced today an alliance agreement with Pribatua, the Basque Association of Privacy and Information Security (Asociación Vasca de Privacidad y Seguridad de la Información). As part of this “sister” relationship, Pribatua members will receive membership rates for IAPP offerings and Pribatua will be co-sponsors of IAPP Europe’s two major events, the Data Protection Intensive and the Data Protection Congress.

Pribatua is an organization that “aims to promote, disseminate and train professionals and organizations, both public and private, in the legislation, regulations, standards, methodologies and best practices for information security and privacy.” It engages in public education about privacy rights and appropriate use of data, along with providing tools for safeguarding privacy.

The organization also seeks to promote synergies with the Basque Agency for Data Protection and other supervisory bodies, and it helps to open up lines of communication between academics, industry and government.

The alliance agreement is similar to agreements the IAPP has with many organizations around the globe.

In a blog post announcing the relationship, Pribatua said the relationship will allow for its members to get the benefits of an international privacy association, while keeping the regional ties that Pribatua encourages.
