In headline after headline, Privacy Awareness Week was generating much of the news in Australia and New Zealand. ZDNet reports Australia Information Commissioner John McMillan, speaking at an iappANZ Privacy Awareness Week event on privacy invasion in the digital age, suggested the way “to stop personal information getting out in the first place through better information security practices and better privacy procedures.” ARN reports on comments by McAfee's Michelle Dennedy, CIPP/US, CIPM, that in this digital world, “the best course of action is to plan for the eventuality of errors by building a privacy infrastructure that places protecting customer data at its heart and provides clear policies and guidelines for employees who are in charge of managing this type of information.” ITNews reports on Australian Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim's comments at the start of the week that “early notification of a data breach will be taken into account when considering whether additional regulatory action is necessary,” and PSnews highlights his call for “people to read privacy policies and notices to find out what will happen to their personal information.” Meanwhile, in keeping with NSW's theme for Privacy Awareness Week, "Mobilise your privacy, stay safe online,” NSW Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Coombs urged mobile users "to adopt Privacy by Design and ‘take control’ from the onset with mobile apps,” TechWorld reports.
