CRM Magazine reports this week on the lack of resources that corporations dedicate to data security, particularly in light of rising reports of data breaches. Citing Identity Theft Resource Center data, the report says there were 783 reported breaches in the United States last year, averaging roughly 15 a week. Further, according to Ponemon Institute research, companies can expect to encounter “17 malicious codes, 12 sustained probes and 10 unauthorized access incidents each month.” With that in mind, says Hagens Berman partner Thomas Loeser, a former federal prosecutor, “There’s no question that there’s much more [companies] could be doing.”
