When Glenn Greenwald addressed the 3,000 privacy professionals who came to hear the now-famous journalist speak at the IAPP Global Privacy Summit, his message was simple: You have the power to change the injustices that exist and, in fact, as a citizen of the world, it’s your duty to do so, Angelique Carson, CIPP/US, reports for The Privacy Advisor. Since the surveillance and data-collection practices of the U.S. National Security Agency and its allies were revealed, the question Greenwald is asked most is “what has changed?” And the simple answer, he said, is nothing. But, the ability to create real change in the way privacy rights are protected and the way democracy itself is being subverted “lies with the people in this room,” he said.
