Citing “leaked documents,” IT World reports civil liberties groups are warning that the EU’s proposed data protection reform is “badly broken.” The documents suggest the Council of the EU “is trying to destroy key elements of the original proposal,” the report states. Civil liberties groups Access, the Panoptykon Foundation, Privacy International and European Digital Rights (EDRi) “published leaked council proposals to amend the proposed data protection regulation on Tuesday,” the report states, noting the groups have also published side-by-side comparisons between the European Parliament and Council of the EU changes. “The regulation is becoming an empty shell,” said EDRi’s Joe McNamee.
