Shredded files, left outside of Alberta’s governmental buildings for disposal, are causing consternation as the current leadership transitions out of office, so much so that Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark made complaints via the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIP) and Alberta Information and Privacy Commissioner Jill Clayton has launched an investigation. While current leadership has argued that “legitimate shredding” is afoot—“Constituency documentation and personal records” fit that bill—Clark believes otherwise. “I’ll do what I can to stop these documents subject to a FOIP request from being shredded,” said Clark. He has suggested that “the outgoing government has plenty to hide,” Calgary Sun reports.
