Staples said Tuesday its computer systems were compromised, affecting customers’ payment card information, The New York Times reports. The office supplier is working with law enforcement to determine the extent of the breach and has not revealed when the attack occurred, at which stores or how many customers were affected. “We take the protection of customer information very seriously and are working to resolve the situation,” said a Staples spokesman. Meanwhile, the JPMorgan Chase breach has federal and state authorities pushing banks and brokerage firms to close holes in their defenses, and the personal information of nearly 100,000 people seeking their high school transcripts was recently exposed on a site that helps students obtain their records.
