The New York Times reports on EU regulators’ increased scrutiny of U.S.-based tech companies. From privacy and data protection to antitrust cases, that scrutiny “could potentially curb their sizable profits in the region and affect how they operate around the world,” the report states. The report spotlights several actions involving U.S. companies, including the right-to-be-forgotten cases against Google and Microsoft and the data privacy investigations pending against Facebook. "French, Italian and Spanish privacy officials announced in early April they had opened investigations into the social network’s privacy policies; similar inquiries have already been started by Dutch, Belgian and German officials,” the report states, and an Austrian court has begun hearings in the high-profile case brought by Max Schrems.
