The Verizon 2015 Data Breach Investigations Report found more than two-thirds of the 290 electronic espionage cases from 2014 involved phishing attacks. By sending as few as 10 malware-laced emails, hackers were able to get past corporate security systems 90 percent of the time, Reuters reports, noting the average cost per breached record is 58 cents, down from other estimates. And a Symantec report found that once hackers get into a system, they are often able to craft customized software to evade detection. In a third report, Aruba Networks found that 87 percent of the 11,500 workers it surveyed assumed their IT departments will protect their “bring-your-own-devices” from cyber threats, while 31 percent admitted to losing data because of “misuse.”
