The Meaningful Use Stage 3 proposal, while mostly “beneficial,” isn’t without fault, finds the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology (HIT) Privacy & Security Workgroup. In its critiques, the group cites five necessary improvements, most specifically in the areas of “user guidance” on safe use and “patient access,” requesting the development of education materials for consumers as well as more sophisticated methods of identity protection, even “a need to certify patient-facing health applications.” The ONC was careful to recognize the extent of its requirements, and as such is offering assistance with revisions as the proposal moves forward, Healthitsecurity.com reports.
